Football Recap: Mission Viejo Starts off Right with Win over Marina + How To Watch

Mission Viejo gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They secured a 12-6 W over the Marina Vikings. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Diablos were the better team in the second half.

Leah Vanderveen went supernova, picking up 99 receiving yards and two TDs. That's the most receiving yards she has posted since back in September of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mission Viejo's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Mariana Leifheit, Emily Johnson, and Sierra Hickling, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Mission Viejo didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-0 defeat against Classical Academy on the 15th. As for Marina, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 25-0 loss against El Dorado on the 13th.
