Baseball Game Preview: Bullard Panthers vs. Nacogdoches Dragons

The Bullard Panthers will take on the Nacogdoches Dragons in a tournament on Thursday. Bullard's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Nacogdoches' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bullard took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They never let Spring Hill get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for Bullard, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Holt was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Gage Alderman was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Bullard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Nacogdoches' offense. They came up short against Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Nacogdoches saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyren Mathews, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Josh Morones also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Bullard is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. Nacogdoches has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
