Softball Recap: Monroe Catholic Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monroe Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the North Pole Patriots on Thursday. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 16-5 win the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Anya Chernich made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Chernich wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leyton Cortez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Monroe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Pole only posted an OBP of .350.

Monroe Catholic's record is now 7-3. As for North Pole, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-10.

Monroe Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair will be back at it again later today.
