Basketball Recap: Portage Makes It 12 in a Row at Home

Portage had won 11 straight home games dating back to last season and Michael Wellman did his part to make it 12 on Thursday. Everything went the Portage Indians' way against the Crown Point Bulldogs as the Portage Indians made off with a 64-40 victory thanks in part to Wellman, who went 6 of 8 en route to 21 points. What's more, he also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Portage has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Crown Point, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-2.

Portage will square off against South Bend Adams at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Portage knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully South Bend Adams likes a good challenge. Crown Point has already played their next game (against Andrean), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
