Basketball Recap: Troy Defrates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jacksonville over Quincy

If Jacksonville was feeling good fresh off their 68-48 takedown of Springfield Southeast on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jacksonville Crimsons lost to the Quincy Blue Devils on the road by a 66-49 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Crimsons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked third).

Jacksonville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Troy Defrates, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Amaree Burries, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Jacksonville was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Jacksonville's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Quincy, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-2.

Looking ahead, Jacksonville will square off against Jersey at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Quincy, they will face off against Rock Island at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Rock Island's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
