Baseball Recap: Leesville Road Takes Down Richmond in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Leesville Road rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Richmond Raiders a 1-0 shutout.

Alex Higdon and Jack Fields dominated on the mound. Higdon didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched, while Fields didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Fields has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Landon Lewis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Leesville Road has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Richmond, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-10.

Looking ahead, Leesville Road will take on Corinth Holders on Friday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Pride surely won't give up without a fight. Richmond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
