Baseball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. Nipomo Titans

The San Leandro Pirates will square off against the Nipomo Titans at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither San Leandro nor Nipomo posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

San Leandro is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Lowell just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (4-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

San Leandro got a good showing from Ky Lenn Smith, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Ben Mladanich made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Meanwhile, Nipomo came up short against Cabrillo last Friday and fell 6-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Conquistadores: they've now lost five in a row.

Nipomo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Beau Hageman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

San Leandro's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Nipomo, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
