Basketball Game Preview: Oakcrest Chargers vs. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves

Oakcrest is 0-10 against Saint John Paul the Great Catholic since February of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Chargers are taking a road trip to challenge the Wolves at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Oakcrest picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with a 44-37 victory over Calvary Temple. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with Calvary Temple: they've now won four in a row.

Kate Newsome had a dynamite game, shooting 41% from the field to rack up 27 points and three blocks. The game was her fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Hanifen, who posted four points and six rebounds.

Oakcrest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Saint John Paul the Great Catholic took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against Seton by a score of 39-30.

Oakcrest ended up a good deal behind Saint John Paul the Great Catholic in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, losing 32-17. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
