Basketball Game Preview: Petersburg Vikings vs. Wrangell Wolves

The Petersburg Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Wrangell Wolves on Friday. Petersburg is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Petersburg came up into this matchup off a tough 23-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Haines by a score of 50-48 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vikings have suffered since January 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, Wrangell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Mt. Edgecumbe, falling 84-58. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Braves are ranked ninth).

Wrangell's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Petersburg, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Petersburg came up short against Wrangell when the teams last played back in January, falling 45-34. Can Petersburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
