Basketball Recap: Bishop O'connell Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with St. John's

Bishop O'Connell is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of St. John. The Bishop O'Connell Knights fell to the St. John's Cadets 59-55. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Cadets recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Bishop O'Connell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Morrill, who posted 18 points. Morrill is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Daniya Brown was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Morgan Stewart continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. John's, going 7 for 15 en route to 22 points and six rebounds. Stewart's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Camille Nesmith, who put up 12 points and seven boards.

Bishop O'Connell's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for St. John's, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2.

Bishop O'Connell has already played their next game, a 64-56 loss against Elizabeth Seton on the 28th. As for St. John's, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-49 victory against Our Lady of Good Counsel on the 28th.
