Basketball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They were beaten by the Gregory Gorillas 67-32. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Gorillas are ranked 45th).

Leading Gregory to victory were Noah Bearshield and Lincoln Juracek. Bearshield went 10 for 14 on his way to 21 points and three steals, while Juracek went 7 of 10 en route to 20 points and five boards. Juracek has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Colt Keiser, who posted six points and three steals.

Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Gregory, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

Avon has already played their next matchup, a 64-39 loss against Freeman on the 31st. As for Gregory, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-24 victory against Jones County on the 31st.
