Softball Game Preview: Trona Tornadoes vs. Mojave Mustangs

Trona is 1-9 against Mojave since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tornadoes will take on the Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. Trona is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Trona took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Lee Vining. The victory continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Lily Mehan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Autumn Dunn, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Kryslin Weathers also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 20 runs the game before, Mojave was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They lost 25-2 to Del Oro.

Mojave's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Trona, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Trona was able to grind out a solid victory over Mojave when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 11-8. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
