Volleyball Recap: Ava Parra's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Mesa over Mayfield

West Mesa had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-9 to make it six. They came up short against the Mayfield Trojans, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

West Mesa lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ava Parra, who had seven digs and two aces. Another player making a difference was Isabella Garcia, who had 17 assists and four digs.

As for Mayfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mayfield can attribute much of their success to Alexa Chavez, who had nine digs and five assists. That's the most assists Chavez has posted since back in November of 2024.

West Mesa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Organ Mountain on the 2nd. As for Mayfield, they have also already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 2nd.
