Recap: Armijo Royals vs. Rodriguez Mustangs
If The Armijo Royals were feeling good off their 34-14 takedown of the Wood Wildcats last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between Armijo and Rodriguez wasn't particularly close, with Armijo falling 30-14. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Armijo in their matchups with Rodriguez: they've now lost eight in a row.
Camarri Hayes threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Hill was his top target, picking up 48 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Zack Tayeh rushed for 76 yards.
Rodriguez found their leader in underclassman Jermaine Missouri, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Missouri was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 65 yards. Another big playmaker for Rodriguez was Jeffery Missouri, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Armijo to a paltry 193 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Rodriguez's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Isaiah Angulo and Ka?shaun Gresham who racked up six sacks between them.
Armijo's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. Rodriguez is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Armijo will be playing in front of their home fans against Vacaville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rodriguez, they will head out on the road to face off against Wood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wood is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
