Softball Recap: Colbert County Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Colbert County's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Hayden Wildcats with a sharp 6-0 win. Considering the Indians have won 20 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Makayli Davis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Hallie Holland and Creleigh Gargis did most of the damage at the plate: Holland went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Gargis went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Holland has posted over her last 15 matchups. Kylee Holland was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Colbert County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Colbert County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 42-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hayden, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 29-13.

Coming up, Colbert County will host Wilson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayden, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-5 win against Mortimer Jordan on the 27th.
