Volleyball Recap: Somerset Academy Falls Short of Pembroke Pines Charter in the Playoffs

Somerset Academy and Pembroke Pines Charter squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Somerset Academy had to settle for second. They lost 3-0 to the Jaguars. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Jaguars when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Joshua George paced Somerset Academy's offense, picking up ten kills. George got some help from Simon Morales and his 15 assists. Finally, Ethan Cruz kept Somerset Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Pembroke Pines Charter can attribute much of their success to Elier Gil, who had 15 digs. Gil is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games he's played. Jonathan Rios also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

With the loss, Somerset Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-10. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Somerset Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Belen Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in the Jaguars' favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Wolverines have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
