Baseball Recap: Barnwell Beats Hampton County for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Barnwell waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Hampton County Hurricanes. The Warhorses might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.

Cameron Austin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Case Davis was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Tommy Reid, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Barnwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton County only posted an OBP of .238.

Barnwell's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hampton County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Barnwell will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Edisto at 6:00 p.m. As for Hampton County, they will challenge Battery Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
