Baseball Recap: Tempe Prep Sets Scoring Season-High Against Maryvale Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tempe Prep). Everything went their way against the Maryvale Prep Matador on Wednesday as they made off with a 14-4 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Carlos Gastelum was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Farley, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

Tempe Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Tempe Prep's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Maryvale Prep, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tempe Prep will square off against ALA - Anthem South at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.33 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Maryvale Prep, they will head out to take on Valley Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Matador's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flames have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
