Basketball Recap: Chiles Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Gabe Parks and Isaiah Bundrage

Chiles lost against Leon back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chiles Timberwolves fell 81-70 to the Leon Lions. The Timberwolves were up 40-26 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Isaiah Bundrage and Gabe Parks certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bundrage went 8 for 15 on his way to 26 points and six boards, while Parks went 8 of 15 en route to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Parks is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christian Craig, who posted eight points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Chiles was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leon only posted two assists.

Leon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alphonza Gammons led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Those 23 points gave Gammons a new career-high. Aaron Pensel was another key player, going 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points.

Chiles' loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Leon, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Chiles has already played their next matchup, a 78-46 victory against FAMU DRS on the 18th. As for Leon, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Leon Lions challenge the Godby Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season.
