Basketball Recap: Dixie Comes Up Short

Dixie was the 62-51 winner over Desert Hills when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Flyers fell 51-43 to the Thunder on Wednesday. While the Flyers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Thunder 16-12 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Dixie lost, don't look at Collin Simmons. Despite the final result, he shot 67% from the field on his way to 23 points and seven boards. The game was Simmons' third in a row with at least 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Spence, who posted 13 points.

Desert Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Antene'a Tauaefa led the charge by going 6-for-12 en route to 14 points. Tauaefa is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Kolten Andrus was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Dixie has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-8 record this season. As for Desert Hills, their record is now 9-12.

Coming up, Dixie will square off against Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Flyers will be up against the Reds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.18 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Desert Hills, they will face off against Crimson Cliffs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Thunder will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least 55 points in their last ten games.
