Baseball Recap: Palmyra-Eagle Takes a Loss

Palmyra-Eagle dropped to 7-4 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Deerfield Demons by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since April 9th.

Palmyra-Eagle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Brodzik, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Deerfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

On Deerfield's side, Landon Brattlie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Deerfield is 3-1 when Brattlie allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-6-1 otherwise. Brattlie was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Aiden McAloon was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Noah Maginn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

While Palmyra-Eagle had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
