Basketball Recap: McCool Junction Victorious

If Meridian wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played McCool Junction, they should've done a better job of containing Claire Brugger. The McCool Junction Mustangs came out on top against the Meridian Mustangs by a score of 51-42 on Thursday thanks in part to Brugger, who went 8 of 10 en route to 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Clark, who posted ten points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaylee Sobotka, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That was a full 45.2% of Meridian's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taelyn Filipi, who put up 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

McCool Junction now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Meridian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

McCool Junction will challenge Giltner at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. As for Meridian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-41 defeat against Shelby-Rising City on the 11th.
