Basketball Recap: Gateway Charter Starts off Right with Win over Lely

Gateway Charter gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed past the Lely Trojans to the tune of 60-21. The win continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Gateway Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Parham out in front who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lizy Mendez, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Gateway Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Lely lost, don't look at Zashlie Andris. Despite the final result, she had ten points and seven steals. Andris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Reese McLaughlin was another key player, putting up four points.

Gateway Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-34 win against Gulf Coast on the 20th. As for Lely, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-37 victory against Lehigh on the 20th.
