Baseball Recap: Illini West Takes a Loss

Illini West was the 7-1 winner over Canton when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chargers fell 6-1 to the Tigers on Tuesday. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Illini West got a good showing from Jaydyn Combites, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Combites has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Illini West saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Carlisle, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Illini West's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Canton, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illini West will challenge Alleman at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Canton, they will square off against Moberly at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
