Softball Game Preview: Frontier Titans vs. Highland Scots

For the second straight game, Frontier will face off against Highland. The Titans will be playing at home against the Scots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Frontier 3.4, Highland 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Frontier fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Highland on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Scots by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Titans, who until this game were averaging 3.45 runs allowed.

Taylor Sloss spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Natalia Duran and Charley Hawkins stepped up to the plate in a big way. Duran went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Hawkins went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalynn Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-2 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Frontier, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.

Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Frontier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
