            Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Princeton Tigers        
        
		
        
        
            It may have taken  eight innings to finish the job, but Mt. Vernon ultimately got the result they hoped for  on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  4-3  victory over the Princeton Tigers. The  win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their 12-game losing streak.

Mt. Vernon got a great performance from  Mason Dye as he  pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned  (and one unearned) runs off   eight  hits. The dominant performance also gave  Dye a new career-high in  strikeouts (three).
 At the plate,  the team  relied heavily on  Luke Weintraut, who  went 2-for-4 with one  home run, two  runs,  and one  double. That  home run marked the first that  he has  launched this season.
Mt. Vernon's  victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 2-12. As for Princeton, they moved to 17-4 with that  loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
 Mt. Vernon has already played their next game,  an  11-1  win against Wood Memorial on the 10th. As for Princeton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boonville  at 5:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
