Despite the defeat, Forestview had strong showings from Sa'Ryah McCorkle, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 18 boards, and Miangel Thompson, who posted 16 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave McCorkle a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Molly Forgan, who scored four points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Forestview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kings Mountain). They had just enough and edged North Gaston out 54-52. The win continues a trend for the Mountaineers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Kings Mountain's win came from a few key players Forestview will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was La'Zya Byrd, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Farri Martin, who earned ten points in addition to five assists and four steals.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-20. As for Forestview, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Forestview has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35 boards per game. However, it's not like Kings Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Forestview took their win against Kings Mountain when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 55-34. Will Forestview repeat their success, or does Kings Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
