Softball Game Preview: Hancock Bulldogs vs. Calumet Copper Kings

Hancock has gone a perfect 3-0 against Calumet recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will take on the Copper Kings at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Hancock's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Niagara with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won four contests by more than ten runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calumet). Everything went their way against Menominee on Saturday as they made off with a 23-13 win. The Copper Kings not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2024 (when they won 21-2).

The team relied heavily on Bethany Garrow, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Coppo, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Calumet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hancock has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Calumet, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Everything went Hancock's way against Calumet in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Hancock made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
