Baseball Recap: Denver City Wins Going Away Against Compass Academy

Denver City barely beat Compass Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs put the hurt on Compass Academy with a sharp 16-1 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Andres Ornelas spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin Garcia was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Denver City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Denver City pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Compass Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Coincidentally, Denver City and Compass Academy will both be playing Crane the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will host the Cranes at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Compass Academy will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
