Baseball Recap: Melbourne Takes Down Bayside in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Melbourne rose to the challenge on Monday. Everything went their way against the Bayside Bears as they made off with a 7-0 victory. The win was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Melbourne got a great performance from Sean Gates as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Gates has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nolan Keeley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Corbin Brown, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Melbourne's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bayside, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.

Coming up, Melbourne will square off against Viera at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.8, the Hawks 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Bayside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
