Softball Recap: Berkeley Prep Comes Up Short

Berkeley Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Steinbrenner on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Buccaneers have suffered since March 1st.

Avery Powers spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Malin was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Hannah Cronin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Berkeley Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Steinbrenner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Berkeley Prep wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-3 loss against Tampa Catholic on the 11th. As for Steinbrenner, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Sumner on the 10th.
