The Palmview Lobos are taking a road trip to take on the Nixon Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Palmview will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While Palmview's win against Juarez-Lincoln wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Palmview narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Juarez-Lincoln 3-1.
Abigail Cantu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Marina Rodriguez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Salinas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nixon). They blew past Roma 18-8 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Gladiators: they've now won four in a row.
Giulia Garza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Garza was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliza Gutierrez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Delaney Guevara was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-5.
Nixon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are undefeated (7-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Palmview's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Nixon, their record is now 12-9-1.
Palmview was able to grind out a solid victory over Nixon when the teams last played back in February, winning 9-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Palmview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
