Football Recap: Southwestern Comes Up Short at Home Against Black Hawk/Warren IL

Southwestern unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 24-19 to Black Hawk/Warren IL on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Black Hawk/Warren IL apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Black Hawk/Warren IL to victory, but perhaps none more so than Beau Podnar, who rushed for 47 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Podnar didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Black Hawk/Warren IL also got a significant boost from Dax Paquin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 115 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwestern is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Boscobel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Black Hawk/Warren IL, they will take on Westby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
