Gulfport is 9-1 against D'Iberville since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Gulfport Admirals will take on the D'Iberville Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Gulfport is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Gulfport's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Briarcrest Christian, sneaking past 1-0.
Gulfport got a great performance from Taevion Collier as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Collier has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gulfport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Crosby, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, D'Iberville posted their closest win since March 25, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Northeast Jones. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Carter Naron made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Naron was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Jaylen Johnson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Canaan West, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Gulfport's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for D'Iberville, their record is now 6-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gulfport has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like D'Iberville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Gulfport took their win against D'Iberville when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gulfport since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
