It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Sunnyvale can now relate to. They fell to the Van Vandals 42-38. The loss continues a trend for Sunnyvale in their matchups with Van: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Sunnyvale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cayson Maupin threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 15.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown. Those 79 rushing yards gave Maupin a new career-high. A healthy portion of Maupin's aerial production (107 yards to be exact) went to Joshua Mcdill.

Sunnyvale didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Garren James and Drew Gardner. James is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in the last three games he's played. Another thorn in Van's side was Alyric Brown, who picked up a sack, forced a fumble, and made eight total tackles.

With the loss, Sunnyvale broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-4. As for Van, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

As of now, neither Sunnyvale nor Van have any future games scheduled.
