Basketball Recap: Chrisman Cardinals vs. First Baptist Christian Knights
Chrisman was the 54-53 winner over First Baptist Christian when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Chrisman Cardinals took a hard 75-57 fall against the First Baptist Christian Knights on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 684th, while the Knights are ranked 93rd).

Gavin McCord and Statler Mitchell certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. McCord went 6 of 11 on his way to 20 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Mitchell went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points along with eight boards and three blocks. Mitchell has been hot, having posted three or more blocks the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Tingley, who posted seven points.
Chrisman's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-7. As for First Baptist Christian, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Chrisman will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. After both having extra time off, First Baptist Christian and Illinois School for the Deaf will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
