Baseball Game Preview: Radford Bobcats vs. Alleghany Cougars

Radford and Alleghany are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bobcats will face off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Radford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Radford is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Patrick County.

Mason Murphy put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Parker Billings made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Alleghany came into Friday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past James River 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Knights since May 28, 2022.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-8. As for Radford, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-1.

Radford might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Alleghany in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
