Softball Recap: Durango Comes Up Short

If Durango was riding high fresh off their 16-1 takedown of Desert Pines on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trailblazers fell 9-5 to the Clark Chargers on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 25-8 on April 1st.

Alexia Carey put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. Carey was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Leiah Biscocho made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Peyton McCullough, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Durango has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Clark, they pushed their record up to 10-6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Durango will venture away from home to square off against Legacy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Longhorns will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Trailblazers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clark, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mojave at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rattlers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
