Softball Game Preview: Tocoi Creek Toros vs. First Coast Buccaneers

The Tocoi Creek Toros are taking a road trip to challenge the First Coast Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. First Coast took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Tocoi Creek, who comes in off a win.

Tocoi Creek had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt St. Augustine on Thursday. Tocoi Creek blew past St. Augustine 16-6. The Toros' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hannah Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Dekoyta Blackmon was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Mauldin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, First Coast fell victim to Paxon School For Advanced Studies and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Golden Eagles, falling 10-0. The loss continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Tocoi Creek's record now sits at 7-5. As for First Coast, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Tocoi Creek beat First Coast 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Tocoi Creek repeat their success, or does First Coast has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
