Basketball Recap: Lincoln Southeast Comes Up Short

It was a classic North v. South duel when Lincoln Southeast took on Lincoln Northeast on Thursday. The Lincoln Southeast Knights took a 73-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln Northeast Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 83-76 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Lincoln Southeast lost, don't look at Mike Ngoyi. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 17 en route to 27 points and four steals. Thanks to that strong game, Ngoyi now owns an excellent 40.3% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Mari Shumaker, who posted 16 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Lincoln Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hayden Tenopir, who went 8 of 12 from beyond the arc to rack up 24 points and five rebounds. Those 24 points gave Tenopir a new career-high. Mowafag Abdalla was another key player, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards.

Lincoln Southeast's record now sits at 11-5. As for Lincoln Northeast, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

Lincoln Southeast has already played their next game, a 74-64 victory against Papillion-LaVista on the 4th. As for Lincoln Northeast, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-69 win against Lincoln North Star on the 1st.
