Baseball Game Preview: South Charleston Black Eagles vs. St. Joseph Central Irish

The South Charleston Black Eagles will take on the St. Joseph Central Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

South Charleston lost 10-2 to Capital on Monday. The Black Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph Central made easy work of Chesapeake on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Irish have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brody Runyon made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Runyon was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Hudson Moosavi and Wyatt Pence did most of the damage at the plate: Moosavi went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Pence went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Moosavi has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of David Beane, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

St. Joseph Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chesapeake only posted a batting average of .286.

St. Joseph Central is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for South Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.

South Charleston beat St. Joseph Central 6-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Black Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Irish turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
