The Sheldon Huskies will face off against the Pleasant Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sheldon 3.4, Pleasant Grove 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sheldon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out McClatchy 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Huskies have posted since April 12th.
Kwinci Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, Nicole Camacho-Vasquez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Angelina Guzman, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove waltzed into their game on Wednesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Trojans.
Madeline Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Shealynn Stinson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Sheldon, their record is now 18-9-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sheldon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sheldon came up short against Pleasant Grove in their previous matchup last Monday, falling 8-5. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
