Baseball Recap: Lincoln North Star Triumphs

Lincoln North Star had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 8-9 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Grand Island Islanders. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Easton Wesslund made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Lincoln North Star is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-8 otherwise. Wesslund was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

Wesslund wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nate Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Grand Island, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Grand Island's side, Blake Caspar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Caspar gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last four matchups.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lincoln North Star is set to face off against their familiar foe Lincoln Southeast at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Grand Island will take on rival Lincoln Southwest at 4:30 p.m. on the 30th.
