Baseball Recap: Albany Gets the Win

Albany took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Sonoma Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Albany Cougars had just enough and edged out the Sonoma Valley Dragons 7-5. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 9-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Max Eddy looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mikey Richards, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Preston McGowen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

The victory got Albany back to even at 1-1. As for Sonoma Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albany will challenge Piedmont at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sonoma Valley, they will face off against Concord at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
