Softball Recap: Old Town Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Old Town had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Mount Desert Island Trojans with a sharp 13-2 win. The Coyotes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Haley Sirois was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Madden, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Ava Brasslett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Old Town was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Old Town's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Desert Island, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Old Town will venture away from home to square off against Caribou at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mount Desert Island, they will host Brewer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
