Softball Game Preview: Thomas Worthington CARDINALS vs. Big Walnut Golden Eagles

The Thomas Worthington CARDINALS will take on the Big Walnut Golden Eagles at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Thomas Worthington made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Bishop Ready, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Thomas Worthington was the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Bishop Ready on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the CARDINALS.

Sophie Newsom made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Newsom was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Schweller, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Katie Niven was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.

Thomas Worthington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Ready only posted an OBP of .304.

Meanwhile, Big Walnut beat St. Francis DeSales 9-6 on Friday.

Kyra Holmes and Sarah Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Holmes scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Adams went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Melton, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

The victory got Big Walnut back to even at 1-1. As for Thomas Worthington, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Thomas Worthington might still be hurting after the 17-7 loss they got from Big Walnut in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Thomas Worthington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
