Basketball Recap: Hughes Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Hughes won the last time they faced Meadowdale and things went their way on Saturday too. The Hughes BIG RED walked away with a 59-51 victory over the Meadowdale Lions. Given the BIG RED's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Lions are ranked 523rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hughes to victory, but perhaps none more so than LeShawn Hill, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Hill's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Englemen, who went 7 for 16 en route to 15 points.

Hughes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Hughes is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Meadowdale, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7.

Hughes will head out to challenge Stivers School for the Arts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hughes' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches. As for Meadowdale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spring Valley Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
