After losing to Independence the last time they met, Newman Smith decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Newman Smith Trojans walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Independence Knights on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Newman Smith pushed their record up to 6-2-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
