Basketball Recap: Avery Powell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Frontier over Waterford

It was a proper cat-fight when Frontier challenged Waterford on Saturday. The Frontier Cougars took a 41-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waterford Wildcats. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 49-47.

Frontier's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Powell, who posted 17 points and five rebounds. That was a full 45.9% of Frontier's points, marking the third time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was True King, who earned four points and nine boards.

Frontier's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Waterford, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Frontier will face off against Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Waterford, they will square off against Caldwell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Caldwell will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Waterford surely won't give up without a fight.
