Softball Recap: Newman Takes a Loss

Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rib Lake Redmen. Even if the Fighting Cardinals couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Maddy Keene led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Merrill, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Rib Lake, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Looking ahead, Newman will head out to take on Marathon at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rib Lake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chequamegon at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
